PLYMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Plymouth Police say a man has been arrested and charged after a long standoff Saturday night.

The man, identified as Herman Smith of Plymouth, is a suspect in a stabbing from earlier Saturday on Samoset Street.

Police said after they responded to the stabbing, Smith barricaded himself inside a house with a 7-year-old boy.

Smith allegedly refused orders from officials to let the boy go. Eventually, police were able to rescue the boy by taking him out of a second-story window.

SWAT teams swept through the house, eventually finding Smith hiding in a closet. He's facing "several felony charges," according to Plymouth Police.

The victim in the stabbing was taken to South Shore Hospital and has serious injuries but is expected to survive.
