PLYMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — During the summer months, parking spots are hard to come by and on the south shore, it can be costly but Plymouth has an early Christmas gift for locals.

As people start to celebrate the holidays, the city is offering free daily parking all around town.

"It'll really help, you know, get more people downtown, and help support the local businesses," one local said.

Now through the end of March, pay stations and metered spaces are free of charge. Some residents are hoping that the changes will increase traffic in the area.

"Not only will people be wanting to shop, but while they're here, they're also going to be wanting to pick up a beverage or a good meal," Jeff from Manomet said.

Plymouth historically has not been known as a holiday shopping destination, but with Old Colony Place, Court Street downtown and an influx of small businesses, it's certainly turning into one with the complimentary parking.

"We know that parking can be an emotional topic for people," one resident said.

Now residents can shop without the stress with free parking in Plymouth.
