BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A world-famous gamer tries to catch them all in Malden, Mass.

Over the weekend, the Malden Gaming District was packed with Pokémon GO players for the Global Pokémon GO Fest 2024. To make the day more special for the trainers, one of the most popular Pokémon GO players in the world came to Malden for the event.

Chris from Brookline, Mass. came with his 7-year-old son so the boy could meet his hero.

“We’re going to meet Brandon Tan, a Pokémon GO YouTuber from Singapore, and he has the most XP of any Pokémon GO player in the world and he makes daily videos, so he’s a big deal in the Pokémon GO world,” said Chris.

Malden Mayor Gary Christenson is a self-proclaimed Pokémon enthusiast and honored Tan with a citation of appreciation.

“We welcome Brandon Tan to the City of Malden and thank him for all he has done and continues to do for the greatest game ever invented,” said Christenson.

Tan was surprised that Malden had its own designated gaming district.

“I think this is crazy, in a good way,” said Tan.
