Police: 9-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being Rescued From Hopkinton Lake

HOPKINTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The nine-year-old boy who was pulled from Lake Maspenock in Hopkinton Sunday evening has died.

Jorge Santiago went under the water around 5 p.m. during a community cookout, according to police. Those in attendance at the cookout jumped into the lake to save him.

The boy was found shortly after first responders arrived on the scene and was transported to a local hospital.

He was transferred to UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, where he died overnight from his injuries.

Hopkinton Public Schools said that grief counselors will be on hand to support students this week.
