Police Arrest MBTA Passenger After Punching Bus Driver

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — MBTA Transit Police arrested a passenger who allegedly assaulted a Silver Line bus operator on Friday.

The altercation occurred at the Tufts Medical Center stop shortly before 10:30 p.m.

The operator told authorities that a male passenger had become upset after the bus did not pull over after he pressed the stop button.

The bus driver attempted to explain why he could not stop before the man punched the operator 10 to 12 times in the face.

The suspect has been identified as Garcia Lewis, 43, of Mattapan. According to authorities, he was still sitting on the bus when the police arrived. He was then taken into custody.

The bus driver was transported to a local hospital for facial injuries.
