YARMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A wild ride on the Cape came to an end when police talked a Hyannis man into climbing out of his basement crawlspace.
The evening started across the border in West Yarmouth at around 5:15 PM on Friday, where Matthew Amick allegedly threw a shovel through a house window and slashed two people with a box-cutter, before fleeing the scene and hitting another man in the street.
That man was severely injured, according to police.
Police said Amick then fled to Hyannis, hitting a car in the process, and they found his car at a business on Willow Street.
The police eventually found Amick in the basement of his house in Hyannis, hiding tucked into a crawl space. They eventually convinced him to come out and arrested him.
Yarmouth Police didn't mention the charges Amick was facing yet, but did say one of the victims, a 63-year-old man, was transported to a Boston hospital for treatment. The department was helped by Mass. State Troopers, and other local departments, saying the incident was "very complex and dangerous."
