SALEM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police have identified the man and woman killed in a wrong-way crash in Salem on Wednesday.
The Salem Police Department said emergency crews responded to a multi-vehicle crash at around 4:30 p.m. in the area of Highland Avenue when a Ford Focus traveled north in the southbound lane and struck another vehicle head-on, causing two other cars to crash.
The Focus' driver James Newhall, 91, and his passenger Margaret Newhall, 55, both of Marblehead, were pronounced dead at the scene. A male passenger in the Focus was hospitalized in critical condition.
Two others involved in the crash were taken to the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
