DEDHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police have arrested the driver in a fatal crash in Dedham early Saturday morning.

State Police arrested Arkeem Samuel of Brighton at around 8:00 PM Saturday night, and charged him with motor vehicle homicide, OUI, and two other charges.

27-year-old Liam Fitzgerald was the passenger in Samuel's car, when it crashed on I-95 North at the University Avenue exit just after 4:00 AM.

State Police said Samuel's SUV rolled into a flooded gully on the infield between the highway and the ramp before it finally stopped, completely submerged and upside down, in several feet of water.

Troopers managed to rescue the two occupants after wading into the water, and they were both rushed to a local hospital, where Fitzgerald eventually died of his injuries. Samuel was treated and released on Saturday.

He is being held on $50,000 cash bail, and will be arraigned on Monday.
