WELLFLEET, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police on Cape Cod and utility companies are warning of scammers that are trying to take advantage of the wreckage left in the wake of last month's Nor'easter.

Wellfleet Police said residents have been receiving scam phone calls claiming to be Eversource, looking for payment information and threatening to disconnect their power.

"Your account reflects a disconnection order taking place today due to nonpayment history," says a robotic voice message from one of the scammers.

The scammer then tries to bait the victim into making a payment or giving away access to their banking information.

Eversource also said to be on the lookout for people claiming to be their employees and showing up out of the blue. The company said almost never makes unsolicited house calls and that its employees always carry company-issued photo ID.
