Police Investigating Fatal Shooting In Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Lowell Tuesday night, the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office confirmed Wednesday.

Police said they responded to a call near Chelmsford Street and Maitland Avenue around 7 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a male suffering apparent trauma. Officers found the victim, later identified as Odogwu Ganobi, 26, of Lowell.

Ganobi was transported to Lowell General Hospital and subsequently to Tufts Medical Center in Boston, where he died Wednesday morning.

According to the DA's office, the Medical Examiner confirmed Ganobi died of a gunshot wound and the manner of death is homicide.

Lowell Police, Massachusetts State Police, and the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office are conducting the investigation into Ganobi's death. Anyone with information is asked to contact Lowell Police at 978-937-3200.
