BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The driver of the car involved in the fatal pedestrian crash in Brockton on Saturday has been charged with murder after the victim died of his injuries overnight.

Brockton Police said the incident happened around 8:50 a.m. in the area of 88 North Main Street.

Vasco Semedo, a 45-year-old from Brockton, was driving the car and was detained at the scene.

The victim, 50-year-old Stuart Smith, was hospitalized with severe injuries, and he later passed away around 10:30 p.m. that night, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office.

Through witness reports and video footage, investigators determined that Semedo was driving a Toyota Rav 4 and struck Smith with the car twice before getting out of the car and hitting Smith with a brick as he lay on the ground.

Semedo will be arraigned in Brockton District Court sometime on Monday.
