DUXBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police on the South Shore are reminding residents to lock their car doors after a string of stolen cars and break-ins this week.

Authorities in Duxbury are investigating after receiving several reports of stolen vehicles and at least a dozen calls about car break-ins Thursday morning. Police discovered two of the stolen cars which led them on a chase through Kingston and Plymouth where one of the cars was found. Police are now looking for two suspects, one who fled on foot and another who got away in one of the vehicles.

The American Automobile Association Northeast recommends the following to prevent vehicle thefts:

  • Roll up your windows and lock your car when parked.
  • Remove the keys and any valuables.
  • Store key fobs as far away from your car as possible and consider putting them in a metal container to prevent a signal boosting attack.
  • Park in well-lit areas and/or areas visible to you or protected by security cameras.
  • Never leave your car running unattended.
  • If your car isn’t equipped with an anti-theft system, consider purchasing security devices for further protection, including:
  • Vehicle immobilizers
  • Steering wheel locks
  • Brake pedal locks
  • Theft deterrent decals
  • Audible alarms
  • GPS trackers

The non-profit also suggests reporting stolen vehicles to police within the first 24 hours. Doing so, increases chances of recovery by 34%.
