EASTHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — What looked like it could be yet another drowning turned into an arrest on the Cape on Sunday night.

Police were called to the scene of Depot Pond for reports of a man calling for help at around 11:15 PM. As they approached the pond, officials heard a man's voice call out, but as they identified themselves as police, it suddenly went silent.

Eastham Fire began to search the pond with a rescue boat, eventually finding the man and pulling him from the water. The man was later identified as Joseph Selwyn of Exeter, Rhode Island. Police investigated further and later said Selwyn had broken into a nearby home, and had actually fled from the house and into the pond.

Police charged the man with Breaking and Entry in the Nighttime with the Intent to Commit a Felony.

Mr. Selwyn was arraigned Monday morning at Orleans District Court.
