BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — UPDATE 1:38 p.m.: State Police said they recovered the body of 4-year-old Mohamed Fofana on the shoreline of Spectacle Island, directly across the water from Castle Island. He went missing Sunday night.

A Massachusetts State Police Marine Unit crew discovered the boy's body at 12:29 PM on Monday. Emergency services and State Police were then ferried to the island and identified the body as Fofana's.

An investigation is ongoing.

Fofana was playing in a park on Castle Island at about 7 p.m. on Sunday when his grandfather lost sight of him. The grandfather called 911 about half an hour later.

Mohamed's family says he was on the Autism spectrum.

A State Police helicopter, a dive team, local police and fire and the U.S. Coast Guard scoured the area to try to find Fofana into the night on Sunday, to no avail, and were back on scene on Monday. Marine and dive teams searched a section of the ocean known as the Western Way, that connects Dorchester Bay to the south and Boston Main Channel to the north, police said.

Crews used side-sonar technology to get sonar images of the bottom of the ocean to assist divers in the search. Ground teams searched Castle Island and surrounding areas.
