BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Whether it's carrying out the "hah" sound or riding out with the "w" included, New England accents are apparently some of the most misunderstood manners of speaking for those outside the United States.
Family travel site Family Destinations Guide says it polled 3,000 people to ask which states had the most trouble communicating when traveling abroad. According to the poll, Connecticut came in sixth, Massachusetts in ninth, Vermont in sixteenth, and New Hampshire in 25th place.
Rhode Island was ranked the number one most confusing accent to people that live outside the U.S.

WBZ's James Rojas asked Bostonians what they thought about the listing.
"I actually go to Rhode Island sometimes, their accent is somewhat ours, they get their swag from Boston," one resident said.
"I'm going to be honest; I didn't even know Rhode Island had an accent," another resident said.
