NORWOOD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Norwood residents seek alternative ways to cool off as both community pools are closed Tuesday.

The town’s Recreation Department said Father Mac’s Pool on Vernon Street will remain closed as they await water test results from the state.

“We are currently working diligently to balance the chemicals in the water to ensure the pool is safe and enjoyable for everyone,” officials said, adding that the pool could reopen in the next few days depending on the test results.

Hawes Pool on Washington Street is also closed due to construction and will remain closed for a few weeks.

“I do like that pool a lot,” one resident said. “It’s very close to me. I can just get the bus down there. It’s perfect.”

The closures come as the National Weather Service (NWS) declared an Extreme Heat Warning on Sunday for most of the state until later tonight.

In Boston, Mayor Michelle Wu has declared a heat emergency as temps are expected to reach near triple digits.

“It’s going to be tough for kids, especially they’re out of school now and it’s so hot,” another local resident said. “All they want to do is cool off and beat the heat.”

Some other residents said they are opting to stay indoors blasting the A/C instead.

“I’m staying inside every which way when I got to come out I go in the car turn on the A/C,” another Norwood resident said.

The NWS recommends drinking plenty of fluids, finding places with air conditioning or cooling, limiting strenuous activity outdoors and wearing light color and lightweight clothing to prevent heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
