BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Actor and Dorchester native Mark Wahlberg's first brick and mortar store opened in the Seaport Thursday.
The temporary pop-up store for Wahlberg's clothing brand MUNICIPAL was one of several celebrating a grand opening at the Seaport's pop-up village The Current, just off Seaport Boulevard.
"It’s actually been, like, really busy," marketing manager Rhiona Sullivan told WBZ NewsRadio. "We’ve had a lot of people stop by and Mark posted it on his Instagram, so people, like, knew about the show coming. We’ve had, like, a lot of people swinging by just to say hi and check out the stuff. We’ve actually sold some product."
Located inside a 180-square-foot shipping container, MUNICIPAL sells t-shirts, hoodies, underwear, sweatpants, and other sports utility gear that can be worn as athletic wear or street wear.
"More style, more versatility, functional," said Sullivan when describing MUNICIPAL's products. "You can wear it to the gym or you can wear it out and about, it’s really stylish. Very cool pops of color, patterns, but it’s also, like, super comfortable. You wanna live in it, I live in it."
Customers enjoyed mocktails and a DJ playing music as they perused the merchandise.
"Someone with his brand, it’s good to go kind of where his hometown is. And I like that it’s both equipment and clothing too," Gabriella, a customer, said.
"I follow him on Instagram and he’s always got this stuff on in the gym and it looks athleisure, but nice," another customer said.
The pop-up store will be open until Sept. 2. Wahlberg plans on making a few visits to the store throughout the summer.
