DORCHESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A popular sewing class in Dorchester has returned.

It's called 'A Taste of Cultural Fashion: From Africa to Dorchester.

Local business owner and fashion designer Nahdra Ra teaches students how to design and sew their own clothes focusing on the history and influence of African cultural clothing in American fashion.

The classes are held at Boston Public Library's Grove Hall branch. "I love creating, and I love assisting people to create," she said.

Dorchester's Carol Carter was one of the students taking a class this week. She said she was having a blast learning how to sew African clothing. "I'm making a vest of different colors... made up of dark and lighter shades."

Ra teaches sewing classes for adults and another for teens.
