SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — What started with just 60 bands in 2011, has evolved into an extravaganza featuring nearly 500 performers on 443 porches.

Porchfest is returning to Somerville on May 10 and this year's attendees will notice a few changes.

"The biggest one specifically being restricting certain roads that are busy streets for the city," says Iaritza Menjivar, events manager for the Somerville Arts Council.

"Meaning that they are important for emergency vehicles to get through. And it gets a lot of vehicle traffic, pedestrian traffic."

Performer hopefuls will also notice a new application process while attendees will notice badges in front of participating homes.

But with rain in the forecast, Menjivar is uncertain about the likelihood of the festival happening this weekend.

"We want to keep it as close as possible on Saturday. We will be deciding Friday by 1 p.m."
