BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) Just in time for 2025, Copley Square will partially re-open on Wednesday after more than a year of renovations.

The first portion of the park to reopen will be the northeast triangle between Trinity Church and Boylston Street— the eastern grove next to the new and improved fountain.

Next up, the plaza on the raised grove areas will re-open in January or February. City officials say the fountain, lawn areas, and sidewalks around the park will take a bit more time, opening after the Boston Marathon in April.

The park has been closed for renovations since July 2023, costing a total of $18.9 million.

Upgrades include enhancing accessibility and functionality, as well as renovating the fountain and expanding the tree canopy, according to the city. There will also be new event spaces, more seating, updated paths, and more lighting for nighttime visitors.

“Copley Square is one of the most iconic parks in Boston, offering vibrancy and open space in an area that welcomes visitors and residents alike,” said Boston Mayor Michelle Wu in a press release.
