PEPPERELL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The town of Pepperell's lights are back on after being plunged into darkness early Thursday morning. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency said almost all of the town was out of power for hours.

National Grid told WBZ NewsRadio that the problem was caused by a "transmission equipment issue." The utility company said crews were working on repairs, and that 5,000 customers in nearby towns had their power back by about 10:00 a.m.

Dunstable also lost power to almost all of the town at about 7:00 a.m. Thursday morning, but Dunstable Police said the power came back within about and hour and a half.

The power problems caused delays on the Commuter Rail's Fitchburg Line. One train was delayed by about an hour, but the signal issues on the track were resolved by 9:00 a.m.
