BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The next winner of the next Powerball jackpot is in for a hefty payday.

The jackpot for Wednesday's drawing is increasing to a whopping $700 million, the fifth-largest jackpot in Powerball history and the eighth-largest in U.S. lottery history. The cash option would net the jackpot winner around $335.7 million.

So far 2022 has been a good year for lottery jackpots. One lucky winner in Illinois took home a $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot back in July. This was the third-highest lottery prize in U.S. history and came with a cash option of $780.5 million.

Wednesday marks the 36th consecutive drawing without a jackpot winner. The last Powerball winner, from Pennsylvania, took home a $206.9 million jackpot.

In the most recent Powerball drawing a buyer in Texas got five numbers correct, but failed to get the sixth Powerball number. Three people from Massachusetts got four numbers right and the Powerball but did not get all five.
