BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A lucky winner could be in for quite a treat this Halloween.

The latest Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $1 billion ahead of the next drawing on Halloween night, with the cash option worth around $497.3 million.

This jackpot is now the second-highest grand prize in Powerball history and only the fifth ever billion dollar jackpot in U.S. lottery history. This would be the second billion-dollar jackpot won this year, after a Mega Millions winner from Illinois took home a $1.337 billion jackpot back in July.

There have now been 38 drawings without a Powerball winner. The last winner, from Pennsylvania, took home a $206.9 million jackpot back in early August.

In the latest drawing, five different winners got five numbers correct but did not get the Powerball number. In Massachusetts, three people got four winning numbers and the Powerball but were still short the one needed to take home the big prize.

The largest jackpot in Powerball and U.S. lottery history was back in January 2016, when three winners split a $1.586 billion prize.

Powerball will draw the winning numbers at 10:59 p.m. on Monday.
