BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — They call it a crookie.
The baked treat is a cookie mixed with a croissant. Halfway through the baking process, the cookie dough is stuffed into the croissant and also added on top, making for a flaky, chocolatey, gooey crunch.
"It’s the perfect marriage of France and USA, you know, a cookie and a croissant. It has to go together," said Loic Le Garrec, owner of PRB Boulangerie, a French bakery with locations in Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville.

After a bakery in France debuted the crookie, the confection became a viral sensation, spurning Le Garrec to bring it to the Bay State.
"We did a test about a month ago with our French bakers here," Le Garrec told WBZ NewsRadio. "They were not very happy to do it at first, but it came out really nice. It had great success right away, so we decided to continue to improve it and have it at all the bakeries."
The crookie is not the only thing Le Garrec has brought over; he imports all of his butter and flour from France too.
"We try to be as authentic as possible," Le Garrec said.
Akram, one of PRB's employees at its Somerville location, was initially skeptical about the crookie, but the results have been undeniable.
"I was surprised that the French are doing it because they’re usually super traditional with their stuff, and he called me and he was like, 'Yeah this thing is going crazy on TikTok.' We started doing it and we’re selling it out, like, daily," Akram said.
