REVERE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) Sculptors from around the world are heading to the North Shore this week ahead of the annual Revere Beach International Sand Sculpting festival.

The event goes from July 25-27 and features 10 sculptors all making detailed creations along the coastline.

“What’s so special about the Revere Beach competition is that we have 10 of the best sculptors in the world and then we are [on] a pristine beach. Revere beach is beautiful, it's amazing,” said Melineige Beauregard, the festival’s organizer.

This year marks the 21st festival, but also the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. Beauregard said the event’s centerpiece, which is the first sculpture to be created, will be themed appropriately.

“There’s gonna be a big, giant U.S. flag with Paul Revere,” Beauregard said.

The festival’s competitors come from the U.S., Canada, Belgium, Poland and the Netherlands.

The festival officially starts Friday, but beachgoers are free to observe the sculptors working on their creations during the week.

The event is free, and will also feature food trucks, activities and amusement rides. More information is available online
