Pro-Law Enforcement Rally Outside Boston Police HQ Gets Heated

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A pro-law enforcement rally outside Boston Police Department's headquarters got heated on Saturday afternoon.

The "Back the Blue" rally was organized by Super Happy Fun America (SHFA), the same group that held the controversial Straight Pride Parade in Boston in August 2019.

By about 1 p.m. , a few dozen members of SHFA had converged outside Police HQ in South Boston.

Organizers said they were demonstrating their support for police, border patrol, ICE, and President Trump's decision to deploy those Border agents to sanctuary cities like Boston.

Soon after their rally began, about 100 members of a counter-protest group turned out with a brass band and hand-made signs.

Solidarity Against Hate in Boston said they were there to protest the far-right and Neo-fascist agenda.

Shortly after the rally kicked off, WBZ NewsRadio's Shari Small reported that tensions were mounting.

"They're hurling insults at one another," Small said. "It's so intense police had to stand in between the two groups to keep them separated."
