PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WBZ NewsRadio) — All classes at Providence College have moved online, after 84 students tested positive for COVID-19 over a two day span.
According to the College, the bulk of newly positive COVID-19 tests came from students who live off-campus, in the Elmhurst neighborhood.
In response to the spike in cases, a stay at home order was issued this week for all Providence College students, on and off-campus, until at least September 26th.
On-campus students are now not allowed to leave campus, and those who live off-campus have been told to stay in their apartments.
Students on-campus will have food delivered to them, all indoor and outdoor gatherings are banned, and any violations will result in immediate suspensions. College staff, Providence police, and private security will be monitoring houses off-campus on a 24/7 basis.
In a letter to students, Providence College President Rev. Kenneth Sicard said the school had used "virtually every tool at its disposal, and we're out of options."
