US Attorney Sues Quincy Over Environmental Violations

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The US Attorney has filed a civil complaint against the City of Quincy Friday alleging that the city discharged sewage and untreated wastewater into several local bodies of water—including Boston Harbor, Dorchester Bay, and Quincy Bay.

The complaint cites water quality samples taken over a nearly 10-year period between 2009 and 2018.

Those samples showed e. coli, ammonia, and pharmaceutical compounds, all of which came out of Sagamore Creek, Town Brook, Furnace Brook, and Quincy Bay.

"The Clean Water Act is designed to protect the waters of the United States for the health and enjoyment of its citizens. This complaint demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that our waters and beaches are protected from discharges such as raw sewage and seeks to require that the City of Quincy take the important and necessary steps to do so,” US Attorney Andrew Lelling said in a release.

WBZ NewsRadio has reached out to the city for comment.
