QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — For the second consecutive year, the Quincy Police Department has activated a task force to combat retail and package thefts during the holiday season.
The team is called the Shoplifting and Package Theft Task Force. It is "specifically designed to investigate those two crimes in the city," Quincy Police Sgt. Patrick Faherty said.
Quincy police estimate that one in 33 people in Massachusetts has at least one package stolen every three months. Faherty said residents can protect themselves by installing cameras near their doors, subscribing to email alerts from shipping companies and asking retailers to ship packages in unmarked boxes.
The Quincy Police Department is asking the public to report suspicious activity to its Communications Division at 617-479-1212.
