QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Quincy Police have announced a new member is getting ready to join its team.
His name is Ringo and he's currently training in South Carolina.
Once he graduates, the 6-month-old bloodhound will join the force.
Right now, Ringo is spending his time training in tracking, trailing, and learning scent discrimination.
Quincy Police Chief Mark Kennedy said in a press release that bloodhounds have unique capabilities no other K-9s possess.
Bloodhounds are known to be very effective at tracking human scent and they can distinguish the scent trail of one human being from another.
That makes Ringo really good at locating missing children and adults who have cognitive conditions such as Autism, Alzheimer, and Dementia, and who may have a tendency to wander.
Ringo is expected to graduate and join the force in December.
