QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Another city has joined the ranks of municipalities throughout the commonwealth trying to help residents afford the growing cost of electricity.

Later this summer Quincy said it is launching a municipal electricity aggregation program where the city buys power in bulk then offers it to residents at hopefully cheaper rates.

Quincy residents like Linda welcome any help they can get. "My bill was $374," she said. "The highest bill I've ever gotten was $299 this time last year."

Terrence was asking how much longer can electricity bills keep going up. "It feels really unsustainable. It just gets more and more expensive for me to exist in the same spot."

There are 170 communities in Massachusetts with similar programs.
