Quincy Will Unveil Commemorative Monument Honoring Veterans On Saturday

 QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) —   The City of Quincy will dedicate a new stone monument to honor veterans on Saturday.  

The monument, which will be unveiled at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, will commemorate those veterans who served in the Middle East from 1990 to the present. `  

According to a press release, seven veterans will be honored posthumously, including Sergeant Charles T. Caldwell (Kia), Captain Jack Salenius, Private Dennis C. Thomson, Corporal Ciara M. Durkin, Lieutenant Christopher E. Smeglin, Specialist Donny Nguyen and Sergeant Macdouglas Deegan.  

“We pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedoms and our way of life,” said Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch. “Each of these people exemplified courage and commitment, reminding us of the true cost of liberty.”

The public will be invited to attend the ceremony, which will begin with a veterans parade march from Quincy High School to Mt. Wollaston Cemetery at 9:30 a.m., with the official program beginning at 10 a.m.  

Quincy natives General Joseph F. Dunford, USMC (ret.) and General James C. McConville, USA (ret.) are scheduled to speak during the ceremony.  

Quincy Veterans Services, Quincy Police Color Guard & the Quincy/North Quincy High School Band will also participate in the ceremony.
