QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Quincy aunt was found guilty of beating her 11-month-old niece to death in 2018, the Norfolk District Attorney's Office said Friday.
According to prosecutors, Shu Feng Hsu, 32, was living with seven family members in a home in Quincy's Wollaston neighborhood in Feb. 2018, including her infant niece Chloe Chen.
Hsu called 911 after babysitting Chloe for several hours and said the baby was in distress. Chloe did not survive.
An autopsy revealed Chloe died of trauma, including to the head, the attorney's office said.
Investigators reviewed hours of audio and video footage within the home. In an audio recording from the room Chloe was in, the child could be heard crying for an extended period of time. Hsu then entered the room and multiple thuds could be heard, after which the baby fell silent, officials said.
Hsu was arraigned on a murder charge in March 2018, but was found guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.
A sentencing date has been set for March 30.
