QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Sunday is the last day for residents and visitors to participate in the city of Quincy's weekend-long Maritime Festival honoring its 400th anniversary.

According to Mark Carey, media director for the City of Quincy, the waterfront event is a success so far.

"We haven't seen it this busy in years," Carey said. "It's really, it's a beautiful world-class marina but to really showcase it like this, it looks like something we may end up doing, on and on."

Bay Staters and their guests gathered on the marina for the family-friendly festival featuring reenactments, parades, schooner tours, live performances, and more to celebrate the city's maritime history. Carey says this is the first function from a long slate of events observing the Quincy400.

"We are all year putting on a whole series of events to celebrate our 400th anniversary as a settlement of the City of Quincy. And this was just a great opportunity to kinda show off the marina."

Sunday's itinerary starts with a live DJ set at 10 am, followed by the Decorate Dinghy Parade, a performance by Ayla Brown, a reenactment of the Lexington Minutemen, and the Robert Clarke Magic show. The city will also host a series of concerts in the coming weeks to celebrate the 400th anniversary, with performances from the Dropkick Murphys, Darius Rucker, and John Fogerty.

Hillary of Qunicy supports the idea of making the event a yearly occasion.

"I mean look at all the people. If it's something they can do, definitely," Hillary said. "I mean it looks like everyone's having fun."

While the city continues to plan its next slate of events, one young attendee has already submitted his request for the return of the drummers.

"I like how it bangs like boom boom," Elias said.
