BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A group of protestors are committed to demonstrating outside the statehouse on Beacon Hill each and every workday until the government takes a hard shift on climate change.
Representatives of Boston's branch of Extinction Rebellion say they want federal and state officials to declare an ecological emergency, take action to cut greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2025, and to create a Citizens' Assembly for climate decision-making. According to the group's website, protestors also want a system that "prioritizes the most vulnerable people and establishes indigenous sovereignty and remediation led by and for communities suffering environmental injustice."
WBZ's Carl Stevens spoke to Julia Hansen of Dorchester, who says Extinction Rebellion will be outside the statehouse every day the building is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until the state course corrects its climate initiative, or as advocates say, lack thereof.
"We're protesting the governor's inaction on addressing the climate crisis. There's always two, three, or more of us here at any given time," Hansen said.

In June, members of Extinction Rebellion were arrested after mooning state lawmakers from the chamber's public gallery with the words written on their behinds: "stop passing gas." Hansen says more demonstrations of the sort are in the cards.
"It's possible— you can certainly expect more of that from Extinction Rebellion and from other groups that may align themselves with certain actions," Hansen said.
