NORFOLK, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio)— A Norfolk County Grand Jury indicted a Randolph man on animal cruelty charges after he allegedly beat two Canadian Geese to death.

Ernest Allen, 55, will now head to Norfolk Superior Court after a Grand Jury indicted him for allegedly beating two geese with a stick. The geese later had to be euthanized after being transported to the New England Wildlife Center in South Weymouth, according to a press release.

"Despite [the New England Wildlife Center's] efforts, the geese could not be saved," Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey said.

The New England Wildlife Center also conducted a necropsy, a veterinary version of an autopsy, that would be used if the case goes to trial, according to Morrissey.

Allen had previously plead not guilty to animal cruelty charges at an arraignment in Quincy District Court in August. He was released without bail.

He faces up to seven years in a state prison for the charges.
