BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Voters around Massachusetts had lots of decisions to make this Election Day.
In Boston, Mayor Michelle Wu was re-elected to a second term, and every incumbent Boston City Councilor kept their seats.
While Wu ran unopposed, seven of the nine district city councilors had a challenger. Four at-large city councilors also won over four challengers.
The only open council seat was in District 7, where Miniard Culpepper won with 53% of the vote over Said Coach Ahmed, who got 45% of the vote.
Culpepper will succeed former City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson, who resigned after pleading guilty to federal corruption charges.
A Dorchester native, Culpepper worked as an attorney for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and also served as senior pastor of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
Other closely-watched races around the state include the mayor’s race in Everett. Longtime Mayor Carlo DeMaria was ousted by City Councilor Robert Van Campen, receiving 4,118 votes over DeMaria’s 3,440.
In Somerville, voters chose City Councilor Jake Wilson to succeed Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, who voters ousted in the preliminary election. Wilson received 54% of the vote while City Councilor Willie Burnley Jr. received 44%, according to unofficial election results.
