SALEM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Halloween capitol of the world is expecting a record number of visitors Friday, after already seeing over a million people come in over the past several weeks.

The stage is set for another jam-packed and street-filled Halloween celebration in Salem. Residents like Chris, who lives downtown, said he appreciates the effort made to make the town a spooky destination for tourists.

"You know, I kind of enjoy it. For most of the year, it's a nice quiet, you know, coastal town, but they do a great job putting on a lot of little events," Chris said. "There's a lot of locals, only kind of things and it brings a good energy for a few months out of the year. So me personally, I don't mind it."

Tens of thousands of people are expected to descend upon witch city from across the country, including from Texas.

"Well, we've got breakfast at Reds, and then we're going to mosey down Essex Street as you do," one Texan said. "We've got a reservation at Finz for lunch, and then we have a spooky tour at 8."

Many road closures went into effect at noon. Visitors are advised to use precaution when driving near the area.
