BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Free shuttle buses replaced Red Line trains between North Quincy and Braintree Saturday for maintenance and refurbishment.

The closure will last more than a week until Nov. 23.

MBTA said this is part of the ongoing Track Improvement Program to revitalize and ensure long-term stability of the transit system.

Crews are scheduled to perform “essential infrastructure upgrades, track renewal, and other critical revitalization work.”

In the meantime, the shuttle buses will make stops at each station. MBTA suggests riders should budget an additional 35 minutes of travel to their regular commute.

Complimentary rides on the commuter rail between Braintree, Quincy Center, JFK/UMass, and South Station will also be available.
