BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Yesterday's Red Sox press conference to explain their decision to move on from Manager Alex Cora was an insult to a bright fanbase.

Management's insistence it "parted ways" with Cora and didn't fire the well-respected but proven cheater is ridiculous.

When Cora was largely blamed for masterminding the Astros' 2017 sign-stealing scheme, Houston fired its skipper and General Manager.

Distancing themselves from Cora was the Sox' only move—especially considering Boston's being investigated right now for sign stealing under him, too.

That came up a lot, but Sox Chairman Tom Werner and others said maybe 50 times, "There will be a time when we'll be able to talk about this fully, but we ask our fans to reserve judgement on any conclusions that they may reach until the commissioner's investigation is over."

If the Sox really didn't want to can Cora before Rob Manfred's ruling, all that makes sense to me is that there's a backdoor agreement to lessen Boston's punishment in exchange for a likely guilty scapegoat already likely destined for a suspension.
