BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Red Sox have a new way of celebrating home runs this season.
While the team used to have players ride in a laundry cart after returning to the dugout, that tradition has been replaced with lifting a set of inflatable dumbbells with the number seven on them.
The dumbbells were inspired by Red Sox outfielder Masataka Yoshida, who wears No. 7 on his jersey, and his nickname "Macho Man," which he earned during his time playing in Japan.
On Sunday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers, Yoshida got his pump on twice in the same inning, including a grand slam that helped lead the Red Sox to a 12-5 victory.
Other teams around the league use their own celebratory props for home runs: The Pittsburgh Pirates wield a cutlass, the Los Angeles Angels don a samurai helmet that Shohei Ohtani ordered from Japan, the Baltimore Orioles drink water from a beer funnel, and the Atlanta Braves wear a comically large Braves cap.
