BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Major League Baseball's "Spring" Training is underway across the league, before players can take the field for practice every player must undergo COVID-19 testing or "intake screening", which is happening Wednesday and Thursday this week at Fenway Park.
Nearly 20 members of the Red Sox organization showed up on Wednesday, where the screenings included temperature checks, nasal swabs, and blood tests. After testing, they after quarantine for 24-48 hours to await the results.
If the results come back negative, the player may begin workouts. Anyone who tests positive will be quarantined, and then will have to test negative twice before they are allowed to return.
According to Boston.com, this is the first time the Red Sox have held spring training in Massachusetts since 1943, when because of World War II, the team had to work out at Tufts University in Medford.
The regular season is expected to start July 23 or 24, with each club playing a 60 game season.
