BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Red Sox are set to face off against the Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series on Friday night, but those shopping at the Red Sox Team Store in Fenway might not find everything they're looking for. The store, like many retailers, is a victim of the nation's ongoing supply chain issues.
Some of the store's most iconic merchandise, like jerseys, are affected. "Those tend to be made overseas, and there's only so fast that the company get the stuff in," said Tim Pettit, the store's manager. Pettit said part of the problem was with the factories that make the merchandise overseas, but also shipping issues came into play.
It's not just the physical items that are impacted by a shortage. Pettit said a labor shortage is also hitting the shop, and that it's having trouble hiring workers. "Normally at this time of year we're winding down, but we're still ramping up ," he said. Other restaurants and cafes around Fenway reported the same issue.
The first two games of the ALCS will be played in Houston, with the teams coming back to play at Fenway next Monday and Tuesday with a Wednesday game also at Fenway if needed.
