Reggie Lewis Center Preparing To Open As Mass Vaccination Site

ROXBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — One of the mass vaccination sites that will be opening soon is located, in the middle of the city, in Roxbury, at the Reggie Lewis Center which is owned by Roxbury Community College.

The Reggie Lewis Center is usually home to track meets for Roxbury Community College, but there's a different race going on these days, a race towards normalcy.

College President Doctor Valerie Roberson says she is glad the Center will be a major vaccination site and hopes this will help get more people vaccinated in the Commonwealth.

"It seems to be a natural place the city thought about and we thought about in terms of providing that place for people to come in and get vaccines," said Roberson.

She adds the site is especially important for communities of color.

"We're right across from the T and it's a place people can come that have been disproportionately affected by Covid," said Robinson.

Since the Center is located next to a T stop, she hopes it will serve communities of color as they begin the process through vaccination of recovering from the pandemic.

The Center is expected to be open as a vaccination site, sometime next week.
