Registration Now Open For The Massachusetts VaxMillions Lottery

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Registration opened Thursday for the Massachusetts VaxMillions Giveaway. Fully-vaccinated residents 18 and older have the chance to win $1 million. Fully-vaccinated residents 12-17 years old have the chance to win a $300,000 college scholarship.

The Baker Administration hopes the lottery will incentivize more people to get a COVID-19 vaccine. There are five million dollar prizes, and a five college scholarships that will be awarded.

Drawings will be held once a week for five weeks beginning on Monday, July 26. Registration for that week's drawing will close on Thursday, July 22.

The scholarships, available to residents 12-17 years old who have received the Pfizer vaccine, will be through a 529 College Savings Plan managed by the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (MEFA).

According to the state, funds "in a 529 plan can be applied to cover tuition, room and board, and related expenses at any college, university, or technical or trade school or other post-secondary educational institution eligible to participate in a student aid program administered by the U.S. Department of Education."
