BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley has demanded U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr meet with her next time he is in Massachusetts' 7th District.
Rep. Pressley made the comment on Twitter, one day after AG Barr had visited Boston to meet with the city's police Commissioner William Gross, a move which was heavily criticized by local leaders.
"So AG Barr let’s skip the pleasantries," Rep. Pressley tweeted on Friday. "Next time you set foot in my district I demand a face to face meeting where you look me in the eye and explain why you tear gassed peaceful protestors. Understood?"
Rep. Pressley added that she would have "counsel present" for such a meeting, then tagging Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healy.
After Commissioner Gross' meeting with AG Barr, Healy said Barr "does not care about justice or the people of Boston."
On Friday, Commissioner Gross defended his decision to meet with Barr amid weeks-long nationwide protests over police brutality and systemic racism in the wake of the killing of George Floyd.
"The top law enforcement official in the country requested a meeting with the Boston Police Department," said Commissioner Gross in a statement. "I would rather take the opportunity to educate someone on what we are doing in Boston on how we value and work with the community, and how we support our officers in this work, than close a door."
