BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new study by financial advising company SmartAsset showed Boston residents need to make the fifth highest wages in the country to live comfortably.
The data showed single adults need to make $60.08 per hour before taxes, or four times the state minimum wage, to live comfortably in Boston.
Only Santa Ana, Calif.; Irvine, Calif., San Jose, Calif.; and New York City ranked higher.
Boston families with two kids must make more than $300 thousand per year to raise them comfortably, the report showed.
The consumer price index in Boston rose two percent between January, 2023 and January, 2024, according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Food prices rose 4.7 percent while energy prices fell 13.8 percent.
