BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Forty-five million Americans are expected to travel domestically for Memorial Day Weekend, and according to The U.S. News and World Report, one of the top travel destinations is Boston.

Immersed in history and considered the birthplace of the American Revolution, visitors can bask in historical sites, including the 37,000-flag display that honors the fallen each Memorial Day, or take a picture with the Robert Gould Shaw and Massachusetts 54th Regiment statue, which honors the first all-black regiment from the Northern states to serve in the Union Army during the Civil War.

Home to the oldest marathon, out-of-towners have plenty of walkable tours they can partake in, including The Black Heritage Trail, The Boston Equality Trail, and The Women's Heritage Trail, just to name a few. Susan of Beacon Hill had a few suggestions of her own.

"Obviously, do the Freedom Trail. Down in Seaport, there are lots of cool things that have popped up. Cisco Brewery. Obviously, the park here and maybe on the top of the PRU — that new view place," says Susan. "That would be fun for people to go to."

After the trails, visitors can head to Fenway Park to watch the Red Sox take on the Baltimore Orioles from Friday, May 23 to Sunday, May 25.
