Report: Love Does Cost A Thing

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio— It's a tale as old as time and a debate even older than that — how much should you spend on a first date?

"I don't know. It depends on if you're doing dinner or coffee. It depends on the parameters," said one single gal in Boston.

According to a national poll of 2,000 adults, on average, Americans are willing to spend $125.60 on a first date. But on the North Shore, those with love on the brain are willing to shell out the big bucks.

"Oh God, first dates? Maybe four of five hundred dollars," said one Bostonian. "I mean, if you really want to impress."

"I want to say like $200," said another single guy. "That's not from me, that's what I'm expecting the girl to want. I don't make the rules but that's what they want."

For those concerned about how the cost-of-living influences how much should be spent on a first date, one woman had a simple solution.

"I think it's Dutch. I think you're each paying your section."

Whoever said love don't cost a thing, doesn't live in the Northeast. Well, not anymore.
