HULL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Bay Staters are braving an arctic blast that has many shivering as they attempt to take on the day.
Some are calling it frigid cold Friday as residents are bundling up and turning up the heat. The wind from the arctic blast will make the temperatures feel like the 10s and 20s all day. Breonna from Hull was hoping it wasn't gonna be that bad today.
"A little cool yesterday, but I didn't expect to be this cold today," she said.
The frigid temperatures are a result of a polar vortex that has overtaken New England. The cold breeze will linger into the weekend. The weather is expected to be a conduit for whipping wind gusts and snow squalls. For many like Rihanna from Hull, those thoughts of summer will help us get through it.
"Wish it was a lot warmer, definitely," she said.

The City of Boston compiled a comprehensive set of safety tips to help residents prepare for the winter season:
- Prepare for power outages. Stock up on batteries, flashlights and canned goods. Make sure you have a battery-operated radio, extra medicine, blankets and bottled water on hand.
- Wear several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing rather than one layer of heavy clothing.
- Remember to wear clothing like sweaters, boots, hats, gloves, and scarves. Wool clothing keeps your warmer than cotton when damp or wet.
- Put mittens over your gloves.
- Remember to check on your elderly family and neighbors.
